History & Culture

Hong Kong’s history started  with fishermen and salt production some 7000 years ago.  Not much was going on here: a few small fishing villages and a pirate haven. Hong Kong started to develop as trade hub for tea, silk and opium in the late 1800’s.

From a small trading post in and after 2 Opium wars it became the Metropole we know today. There are many interesting historical sites and visiting those will make you realize how unique this city is.
